Summary: This qualitative study investigates attitudes toward artificial intelligence anxiety (AIA) concerning perceived job replacement in higher education, focusing on the perspectives of students and academic professionals in France. Data were gathered through separate focus group interviews with master's students in information and communication fields and professors in the department of media studies. Findings reveal varying levels of AIA among students. While many anticipate inevitable job displacement due to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in professional contexts, they also express hope that AI can serve as an assistant to augment employee creativity. However, they voice concerns about its use, attributing these concerns to their relatively low AI literacy, which they link to the perceived stigmatization of artificial intelligence within their classroom environment. Professors, on the other hand, are primarily concerned about the lack of institutional support rather than direct job replacement, with AIA manifesting in the form of technostress among educators. Both groups emphasize the need for governmental regulation and enhanced AI training to increase AI literacy. The study underscores the importance of AI integration strategies to minimize AIA levels.
