Summary: This study advances our understanding of sexual communication by demonstrating that it is not a uniform process but one that varies significantly across communication channels. By developing and validating distinct scales for In-Person, Text-Based, and Voice Chat-Based sexual communication, we highlight how the content and impact of these conversations are shaped by each channel’s unique affordances. Overall, the study’s insights underscore the necessity for clinicians, educators, and researchers to consider the nuanced ways in which communication channels influence sexual expression and relational outcomes. Future research should continue to explore how channel-specific sexual communication evolves over time and across relationship contexts, especially as digital technologies continue to transform interpersonal interactions.
