«Morning TV shows: Discourse strategies in political interaction (2019-2023)»
Carlos Fuica will present his doctoral research project and its progress. This research addresses the analysis of interpersonal meanings instantiated in political conversations. These political dialogues are enacted in a particular kind of miscellaneous broadcastings, known as « matinales ». These TV shows have changed their content (before they used to have only entertainment purposes) and they have incorporated political actors and thus political talk.
This research attempts to evaluate discursive practices enacted in political discussions broadcasted in TV morning shows and their contribution to democratic dialogue.
In this research two types of analysis are deployed: On the one hand, we use the analytical perspective from Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) for text and discursive dimensions, and, on the other hand, we analyze the sociopolitical dimension through the concept of metapolitics.
Carlos Fuica is a PhD student at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Also, he is an assistant professor at the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences, in the Spanish Department.
